How Often Should I Get a Massage?

It’s a question we hear a lot from our clients: “How often should I get a massage?”

And the answer is: It depends. We have a few questions for you that can help you determine how often to get a massage:

What’s your general activity and stress level?

Highly active people may work a job that requires lots of movement or repetitive stress on certain areas of their body, such as hairdressers, delivery drivers, construction workers, and many other jobs. You might also have hobbies that require a high level of activity, such as running, hiking, or playing sports. Let’s not overlook people who sit at a desk most of the day though. There’s plenty of tension in their back, shoulders, and neck from poor posture or repetitive moment associated with typing. And stress, whether from work or personal life, can further add to that muscle tension.

It really comes down to how your body feels on a daily basis because of the physical exertion or stress you’re putting on it. Your body may adapt over time to that stress, and then you don’t realize how tense you really are until you start managing that tension with regular massage sessions.

What are your goals for massage therapy?

Some people’s goal for massage therapy is simply to take an hour for themselves regularly, while others think of massage in response to a specific incident or injury or as a luxury saved for a special occasion. For some the primary goal is finally getting rid of those knots in their muscles that have been there for years.

Like many things in life, it’s all about aligning your actions to your goals. So think about your goals in regards to massage therapy and let that help inform how often you get a massage.

What’s your budget?

Massage therapy is an investment in your health and well-being, and every massage at Resonance Mind Body Wellness is provided by a highly trained and experienced licensed massage therapist. Our rates start at $50 for a 30-minute massage session and go up from there based on the type of massage and duration. Because of the investment involved, your budget will play a role in how often you should get a massage. Some clients prefer a 90-minute massage once a month while others opt for a shorter massage every week.

We believe that massage is a valuable part of your overall healthcare, and getting a regular massage can help alleviate many areas of tension and stress in your body. We’re happy to help discuss your lifestyle, activity level, and specific needs to create a wellness plan that works for you.
