The Triad of Mind, Body, and Spirit
When we talk about wellness, we don’t limit it to the health of your body — we want your whole self to be well. In fact, we believe wellness requires awareness and care of the triad of mind, body, and spirit. All three are interconnected. When one part is struggling, it can impact the others.
Stress is a classic example. Although an injury is a physical stress, stress is more commonly thought of as a problem for your mind and emotions. But that stress can distract you from paying attention to your body, impact your daily habits and routine, and even cause physical reactions in the form of higher heart rate and inability to sleep.
Here’s how we think about each aspect of wellness:
● Body – Our body relates to your physical health, which includes things like illness, nutrition, movement, and posture. Sleep habits and skincare also play a role in physical health of the body.
● Mind – The mind is a powerful place. How we think about things and how we speak, both to ourselves and to others, sets the tone for life. Our mental state also impacts how we process events and experiences and how we handle stress.
● Spirit – The meaning of spirit looks different for every individual, but it’s the inner core of who we are. For some, caring for their spirit means a connection with a church and with God. For others, it is communing with nature and the earth. Still others feed their spirit through connection with friends and taking time to enjoy being with them.
At Resonance, we treat each client as a whole being and aim to care for your mind, body, and spirit in every interaction. We encourage you to focus on all three aspects of wellness, because we know that each one contributes to health and happiness. You cannot focus on one aspect and neglect the other two at the same time. They work in tandem.
We offer many services, but the one that started it all for us is also the one that has a unique ability to touch your mind, body, and spirit: massage! Massage obviously treats the body, but it can help reduce stress and care for your spirit as well. Stay tuned for future posts to learn more about each of these three aspects of wellness and how you can focus on each in your daily life.
