Five Things We Want Our Clients to Know

Getting a massage is a unique experience that can sometimes leave clients feeling vulnerable or uncomfortable about their body. We would really like to alleviate those concerns so that our clients can feel comfortable and relaxed during their massage. The reality is that most things are no big deal for your massage therapist. In fact, these are the top five things we wish all our clients (and massage clients everywhere) knew.

1. Our space is a judgement-free zone

Resonance Mind Body Wellness is a judgment-free zone. We understand that many of our clients come in with insecurities related to their bodies, but this is a space to let go of them. Every body is different, and every body is beautiful, in any form. Our job is to help your body feel better. We want you to walk out of our spa feeling good physically and feeling good about your body as well.

2. Don’t be embarrassed about a little gas

Bodily functions are normal. In fact, passing gas during a massage is not surprising at all. Massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which relaxes the body and can result in farting. We promise you aren’t the first person and won’t be the last to pass a little gas during a massage. We’re not saying let loose every time, but don’t feel embarrassed if some gas escapes your body every now and then during a massage appointment.

3. Don’t be concerned about body hair

Body hair doesn’t bother us either. We often don’t even notice it as we focus on your body work. Our clients include many people who don’t shave at all, whether they are men or women. If you typically shave but haven’t in a few days, please don’t stress about it on our account.

4. We want you to speak up

Feel free to speak up during your massage. Some clients like to chat during a massage and others prefer to zone out or fall asleep. Whichever is best for you is fine by us. No matter what, feel empowered to speak up if you want something different from your massage experience. Whether it is more or less pressure, to focus on a specific area, or a temperature change, we are happy to make adjustments. Massage therapists know the best techniques, but the only way we know if something isn’t working for you is through communication. Speaking up is always welcome and encouraged.

5. Stretching is important

If we recommend stretches, please do them. When we suggest stretches, it’s because we have noticed a consistent pattern of tightness in your body. The stretches will target those areas and make a big difference in the tightness you feel. Stretches work with your massage to get you even better results than massage alone.

At Resonance Mind Body Wellness, we want you to be as comfortable as possible during your massage experience. Always let us know if you have questions or concerns!
